For sale from my 25-year collection of antique Mah-Jong Sets:
Antique Chinese Mah Jong Set, Bamboo and Bone, Original Box, 1920s - unusually fine tiles.
The tiles are bamboo and bone, etched with the mah-jong character and then painted; the tiles are remarkably detailed and clear (see photos #6 and #7) with minimal \"streaking\" on the bone from oils / dirt while being used to play.The original box is dove-tailed Rosewood, built with brass cornices and double-handle, and contains 5 dove-tailed Rosewood drawers with original handles and a sliding / removable front cover that has the inlaid Chinese character for \"Longevity\"and the complete original brass work, including the pull.
The standard true original Chinese set has 144 tiles (this is not an American, Japanese or Singaporean set which typically has 152 or 156 tiles, so there are no Animals, no Jokers, no red \"5\"s).The set comprises:

36 character tiles
36 bamboo tiles
36 circle tiles
16 winds (4 east, 4 west, 4 south, 4 north)
12 dragons (4 red, 4 green, 4 white - ‘blank tile’)
4 seasons (spring, summer, autumn, winter)
4 flowers (plum, orchid, bamboo, chrysanthemum)

Also contains:

Original bones with pips / dots for scoring
Markers (north south east west) to show who is dealer, in their original container - well used (see photo #12)
Dice, in wooden slide-top box (see photo #12)
4 spare tiles

It is rare to find both the original markers and original dice with the set.
There is a shrinkage crack from age in two of the draws (see photos #4 and #5)There is a crack in the box on the left hand side, near the front (see photo #11)
