This extremely detailed vintage depiction of historic Eastern Han China General Guan Yu or Guan Gong stands 11\" tall on his pedestal and might better be termed a cloth and composite statuette than a doll. I have found no similar figure on any antique or sale website. He is the top military figure historically and has come to symbolism fidelity and righteousness in China over time.

He is seen here in his more dramatic Chinese Opera incarnation and pose with the peacock-like quiver of Flagged arrows on his back which he reaches for with one hand while gripping the handle of his long sword with the other with a buddha-like hand gesture. His traditional red dragon gown has a \"fur\"-lined tunic coat over it. His face and visible hand seem to be of the Gofun or composite paste type and as all else here, done by hand. His pedestal is signed--please see all twelve pictures.

As with any doll his age (I would guess 60-80 years), he has small losses to his costume, hair cracks in the paste, etc. His scarcity in this collectible form just adds value to his overall grandeur. He does come off his pedestal though he is not intended for children and should be for display only. A fabulous gift or collectible for any home that will help preserve him for future generations.
