We have an antique Chinese ring, very old and hard to find. The design was created using the Repousse technique and the scene depicts what appears to be 2 adults, one holding a staff and in the center a child. Maybe a scholar with professors? Surrounding the scene are various plants and other decorative accents. Very hard to interpret, but it is highly detailed, and we feel the patina enhances the design, so we have not cleaned it at all. These rings were designed to be adjustable, and this one is currently at about a size 6, however has the potential to adjust to a much larger size .
In the interest of honesty and full disclosure, the ring is in very delicate condition. Please look at the last picture and you will see a kink in the band. This will most likely need the attention of a skilled jeweler-not one of those storefronts in a mall, hopefully someone who is experienced and skilled. At the point of the kink, the band is so delicate, that any further manipulation may cause it to snap. It is also \"out of round\" as you can see. A skilled jeweler will be able to bolster-up the band by soldering a thin sterling band to the underside as well as fit it to your hand.
These are very hard to find, so this is an opportunity to invest in a very unique piece of jewelry, despite the above issue.We bought it at an Estate Sale, had no idea what it was until we took it to a jeweler hoping for some information. In addition to the above regarding repair options, we were also told it dates back to at least the 1920s, perhaps older.
