Fresh from the wilds of Seekonk, Massachusetts, is this ambrotype of a Civil War-era boy. Wearing a single-breasted jacket and bowtie, he sits looking calm while holding an energetic dog in his lap! The dog chose to turn his head during the exposure, so his portrait is blurry. The boy wears a Civil War-style kepi on his head. This could be a Civil War drummer boy posing with a pet, or possibly a boy with his dog wearing the military-influenced fashion of the era. The image has been hand-tinted with pink highlights on his cheeks and thebandannaaround the dog\'s neck. This 1/9th plate ambrotype (2\" x 2 7/16\") comes with a metal mat with an oval opening (measuring 1 7/16\" x 2\"), decorated around the edges with a floral pattern. The mat and ambrotype are in good antique condition, with some wear and surface scratches to the glass from display and storage.The mat is stamped \"DEAN & EMERSON, PATENT APPLIED FOR\" and \"WORCESTER, MASS. NO. 36\" which suggests this image is from Massachusetts.
