Antique 19th century Civil War era trephine skull drill. The drill is in great condition for its age. The handle is wood, there is normal wear from handling but the overall condition is pretty good. This would make a great addition to any Civil War collector or antique medicine collector.
A trephine would be used to drill a hole in the skull of someone with brain trauma- such as someone with a head injury, compression skull fracture, etc. The trephine drill would be used to relive pressure in brain called- \"trephining\".
