A rare example of an American made clock by the Ansonia Company. There is a patent date on the front of March 27, 1877 and the Ansonia hallmark. The back of the clock has all of its knobs and levers intact and a stamped trade mark Peep O Day. The real story of this fantastic brass clock is the imagery on the front brass plate which depicts two cherubs in flight holding a banner stating \"Tempus Fugit\" (Time Flies). While on the bottom of the plate is a devilish looking Grim Reaper with wings and sickle in hand. Also along the bottom is a book with a skull on top, shovel and hour glass signifying all of our mortality. The front and two sides have glass panels and the sides are clear glass showing the mechanics of the clock. The clock is in good condition with no broken glass, but does not run and appears to be wound too tight, but I am not a clock expert ( please see pictures).
