Beautiful pair of Continental European Urns with covers/lids - 19th centuryEnamel painted and gilt metal twin handled urns with covers

The bodies and domed lids decorated overall with stylised foliage on a blue ground, each with toupie finial, the handles cast as rams\' masks
On waisted and spiral fluted socles and spreading circular bases.

This is a very handsome pair of urns, dating probably to the last quarter of the 19th century, circa 1870\'s or thereabouts.

The technique of enamelling orcloisonné used intense heat to fuse glass onto a prepared metal surface, usually flowing the liquid enamel between tiny raised metal lines.
It allowed the metalworker to create brightly coloured images and stunning decorations.
Medieval enamellers used several different techniques but champlevé enamelling was one of the most common.

Please have a look at all the pictures. There is, as said, some loss of paint on the urns, but seen their age they are still in amazing condition.

Each urn is 32cm high, 17cm width and 13cm depth.

Each urn weighs 2165 gr, together weighing 4330 g .

Collection in central London is possible.

Please contact me for international postage, as it may be very costly seen the weight and value of the item.
