VERY GOOD CONDITION

Delightful and charming continental SOLID SILVER 800/1000 antique SQUIRREL TOOTHPICK / MATCH HOLDER.

The toothpick/match holder is in the form of a small cup with flared decorative top, and with a sitting squirrel figurine propping it up on one side. The holder is GILT inside. It is marked 800 for silver mark. It appears to be antique and made before in some countries of Continental Europe full hallmarks on all silver objects were mandatory. Could be German or Norwegian.

The holder is 1.77 in (4.5 cm) tall and weights 0.75 oz (21.29 g).

The holder is in VERY GOOD condition, without any dents or scratches, having slight surface wear normal for the age. However, under the magnifying glass and in high resolution photo there shows a slight crack across the squirrel which looks well repaired a long time ago (please see photo nr 4). As the tail appears to be untouched I\'m not sure it was indeed a break but I am noting it for accuracy. The gilding inside is darkened in places but it has not rubbed off.

The holder can be used equally well as a toothpick holder as well as a match holder although for slightly longer matches than the ones shown on my photos. A beautiful piece of antique collectable and a wonderful and unusual present for fan of those lovely animals, squirrels. Super addition to your silver toothpick or match holders collection.
