Antique Copper Cooking Pot. Unmarked but research places it in the late 1800\'s to early 1900\'s.
This piece is typical of copper and brass manufacturing in American during this time period.
Pots from Europe and the Eastern empires where normally more refined than this one.
Approximate size: 11\" wide - handle to handle, 4.5\" tall. Weight is 1.45# without packing.
Quite heavy as this piece is solid copper with brass handles. This cooking pot was
hand made using two pieces. Blacksmith usually had a mold made out of wood, then
hammered the copper around the mold, then the bottom side. Using finger locking
finger joins, the two pieces where joined together using liquid brass as the sealer.
Great craftsmanship with primitive detailing. This pot is always on display in my
home and it is kept clean but has a very dark patina. The cooper & brass cooking items that I use to cook with are kept shinny. This pot does have a leak in the bottom of the pot.
Still a center piece of any collection and adds ambiance to any room or office. Sell is for the pot only, stands are not included.
This piece is from my private collection, just down sizing the collection.
****NOTICE - I have decided to start the restore on this piece - the last two photos show the brass handles have been polished and the bottom is 80% cleaned and some of the major dents have been flattened. Currently it still does not hold liquids - small leak in the seam on the bottom.****
