It is matted in an ornately detailed, embossed metal, mat in very nice condition. Image of woman dressed in black with dangling earrings and what looks to be a veil. Possibly a mourning photograph?
Leather case has a split spine that is just about detached. Outer embossed leather appears in good condition. Inner velvet is soft and not dry-rotted. Overall measurements are 2 7/8\" x 2 3/8\". Clasp functions fine.
