Antique DPM Duxer Porzellan Four-Handled Majolica Vase:
$199.00

Made in the city of Dux, formerly Duchov,Bohemia, by Duxer Porzellanmanufaktur A.G. (1897-1992) with predecessorsdating to 1860, this beautiful majolica four-handled vase is a gorgeous survivor. It has hints of the secessionist stylemovement, an offshoot of art nouveau.

This relief hand painted vase is anexcellent example of the art of painting majolica. The body is a mottled green, as are the four handles. Each of the four body panelsbetween the handles carries a thistle-like plant with round yellow ‘blossoms’and jagged green and pink leaves.

The piece is clearly identified with theDPM (Duxer Porzellan Manufaktur) black acorn mark in a triangle cornered withletters DPM, used from 1918 on. The bottom also carries an pre-glaze impressed ‘19’ or ‘61’as well as a handwritten ‘D (or P) 161’.

Given its age, the vase is in remarkablecondition. There are no chips or cracks. The only discernible flaws are two fine short hairlines on the inside ofthe top rim, not visible in normal viewing.

This is a gem of a piece, worthy ofserious consideration.
