I have up for sale a wonderful vintage circa very early 1900s HAWKEYE BASKET woven wood splint tin lined Picnic Basket / Cooler . The inside is metal lined with a removable metal storage box which would have been used to place ice, which would then cool the contents in the basket. The exterior is made of woven wooden splints - weaved together , the lid is a one piece , not center hinged as later examples. I believe this to be one of the earliest examples the Hawkeye brand made, although slightly worn the top logo has a patent date of Nov 4 , 1902 and the metal piece on the strap buckle section has a patent date of 1908.
This is not only a very functional item but just a neat looking piece , perfect for decorating. It measures approx 21-1/2\" long - about an inch of so longer if you fold down the handles , approx 9-1/2\" deep not including the handle hinges on the sides, appr 12\" tall to the top of the wood one piece lid. It weighs approx 11 lbs 8 ounces and is a very sturdy well made piece.
The basket is in Very Good Original Condition - all I did was wipe off the dust with an oily cloth. It is not perfect but considering its age and type, its in what I would consider very nice shape. The first pics shows what I will refer to as the front , there are no damages that I notice, the backside has approx 3 or 4 fairly minor defects or minor damage. There are notice on the lower left quadrant - pictured up close in pic ,and the upper right in the area where the basket rounds to form the side section - shown in the last pic. The container which I have shown in pic 3 obviously is removable, it has a few bends and such on the lid or rim area, but still fits with a little work. The wood one piece lid has a small indent - quite insignificant. Overall the basket is in Good Shape , flaws / defects noted and shown in the pics. The basket is a bit over 100 years old and has some age and use wear as one would expect.
I have a couple pieces of the broken splint that you could glue back on , I will place them inside the cooler box.
This will be a bit tricky to package as the basket is fairly large and I want to package well to make sure it arrives safe and sound.
I WILL SHIP VIA FEDEX , they do not deliver to PO Boxes , so if your Paypal address does not include a street address - you may have to update add one.
ONLY THROW OUT THE BOX AND PACKAGING AFTER YOU HAVE INSPECTED THE ITEM AND ARE HAPPY THAT NO DAMAGE OCCURRED.

YOU WOULD BE REQUIRED TO HELP WITH THE INSURANCE CLAIM . SAVE THE BOX AND ALL PACKAGING , YOU WOULD NEED PICS OF THE OUTER BOX AND INNER BOX , AND PICS OF THE DAMAGED ITEM. WITHOUT THESE PICS, YOU WOULD NOT GET A REFUND, THIS IS PART OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITY WHEN IT COMES TO DAMAGE. I PACKAGE TO THE VERY BEST OF MY ABILITIES BUT SOMETIMES THINGS HAPPEN THAT ARE OUT OF OUR CONTROL.
