Antique Early 19th Century Federal Empire Gold Gilt Mirror Frame:

This is a beautiful antique early 19th century Federal / Empire period gold gilt mirror or frame.

It dates circa 1810s to 1820s.

Overall it measures 18 inches x 26 inches (45.7 cm x 66 cm). The mirror and back opening size measure 12 1/2 inches x 20 3/8 inches (31.8 cm x 51.7 cm). The molding is 3 inches wide (7.6 cm).

This mirror has the beautiful neoclassical lines of this period.

The Federal period ran from about 1780 to 1830 and the Empire period ran from about 1800 to 1815.

Given its age, it\'s in remarkably good condition. Each of the four corner blocks has chipping around the edges. There are a few small pieces of missing composition, most notably the piece on one of the short pieces of molding near the site edge.

The mirror itself was probably replaced around 1900 or so. It has what I call streaking in it, but you can still see yourself very clearly.

On the sides, it has that great old early mustard colored paint going around.

It\'s a very sturdy piece.

It weighs 11 pounds 2 1/2 ounces (5.06 kg).
