Classic antique vintage Eli Lilly Doctor\'s Bag in black pebbled leather, produced for Eli Lilly with solid brass latch and hardware. Probably dating to the 1960\'s.
This was the little black bag that Lilly gave you for graduating from medical school, or for writing happy Lilly prescriptions. The \"graduation\" bags were personalized with the newly minted doctor\'s name followed by \"M.D.\" - the first official recognition of practitioner status. This was also the little black bag you took on house calls, back when there were still house calls.
These bags were TOP QUALITY - Lilly wanted you to keep on carrying this bag as you practiced. They are beautifully made to stand up to continued daily use.
This particular bag is personalized with the doctor\'s name, as shown in the photos. The gold leaf is barely worn, so the letters are bright.
About 14 1/2\" long x 5 1/2\" wide x 6\" high, 9\" to top of handles.
Extra nice condition overall. Some very light wear on corners. Interior is intact, un-cracked and clean. Latch has very little wear to lacquer (over brass) and is clean and fully functional. Non-locking.
One of the nicest and freshest of these that we have seen. Perfect for use as a handbag, satchel, house call bag for must-have tools, camera bag or what have you.
