I am pleased to offer for your consideration an antique (1850 -1899), English Victorian, 1/2 Gill copper jug/ale measure. This style jug was used in taverns throughout England, it is marked HR on the spout and 1/2 Gill on the front. The jug is marked with a lead verification stamp which signifies that the measure complied with the ale capacity standard during the time period. Handcrafted in a traditional haystack form, the jug has a deep lip and pouring spout with a small neck and broad base. The jug measures approx 4\" tall (high point of handle), 2 3/4\" from edge of spout to back rim of spout and 3 1/2\" across on the bottom of jug. The overall condition is very good, jug does display minimal indentations, however all wear is consistent with antique tavern jugs that have been used, please see photos provided.Almost all of my items are found at estate sales, garage sales, storage sales, and regular sales. Therefore most items are used and or vintage and may have signs of wear and other imperfections. I try to be as accurate as possible in the descriptions and in the research conducted.
