Update: I received a message that said this is probably late 18th or early 19th century possibly from Germany or Holland.
Very old spinning wheel. I have never been able to find another with such a unique design. I wish I knew the history of it, but I\'ve only had it for about 5 years. Part of it seems to have been assembled with wood nails/pegs. It has a built in storage box. The wood is very aged- see pictures! It has flaws. I tried to take pictures of everything- it sells as is of course! The tension screw is actually in working condition and when turned moves the part holding the flyer assembly forward or back. The leather that originally held the flyer assembly has broken off on one side.. I attached it with a twist tie for the sake of photos. The bobbin is broken apart and what is there is held together with a wire. The middle base has a crack. The distaff is obviously much newer and does not match the rest of the wheel, but I thought I\'d let it go with the rest of the spinning wheel anyway. See photos for wear, etc...
I haven\'t repaired anything because I wanted to preserve the original condition on such an old wheel!
If anyone viewing the listing has ideas where this wheel or type of wheel came from, I\'d love to hear! I have researched and found none like it. I\'m guessing it\'s either very very old or a uniquely crafted (perhaps one of a kind?) wheel.. Either way it\'s a rarity!P.S. I realized I put the flyer assembly on backwards and I forgot the flax, halfway through the photos, so I added and switched the position.. In case anyone is looking closely :)
