You are offerding on an antique Indo Persian axe Tabarzin. This is an Indian one probably from Central India in my opinion and made sometime in the early to mid 19th century. It is an exceptional example preserved in good condition, with the exception that the shaft was broken on the section where the metal reinforment is and re-glued. There are numerous pictures showing the repair, hard to notice from a distance, the shaft shows a curve where the crack was. It seems it was once part of a museum collection as it has a number that is typical for museum inventory. The head is mounted on a wooden lacquered shaft with reinforced tang and a rod going from one side to the other, the end can be seen at the bottom of the shaft. The axe head is decorated with silver koftgari that is usual in older pieces, not the sliver but the manner in which the decoration was done: the silver inlay is raised compared with the steel surface then worked on it similar to the the European engraving techniques. I have seen many tulwars handles made with the same type of koftgari and dated from the same period. The axe is 27 inches long spike to end of the shaft. The head is 5 inches long and the blade is 2-3/4 inches wide. The spike is 3-1/2 inches long. The axe is well balanced feels very good in hand not too heavy not too light.
