Many Blessings to you and Good FRENCH 18TH - 19TH CENTURY HAND MADE TAPESTRY COVERLET WALL HANGING WITH PASSEMENTERIE FRINGE TASSELS TRIMPresented here is an absolutely beautiful hand woven antique French tapestry in rose, light pink & a gold. A lovely textile of faded grandeur from another place in time. The weave is more relaxed like 18thC Looms, moreso than coverlets of this style from later 19thC periods, in a way similar to how silk brocades of the 18th Century looms are a bit more relaxed overall than those crafted on later looms. It is possible it may have been crafted into the 19th Century, when some still used the older looms, but my best opinion is that it is late 18th Century, it is hard to know for sure though. I do believe it is all cotton, nothing about this feels synthetic, wool, silk, linen, or hemp to me. At a length of 100\" by 45\" wide, this would have taken countless, countless hours to make in of itself, but it\'s floral cartouche, floral baskets & many other intricate designs show an expert level of skill, adding even more hours upon hours of tedious work. There is a heavy interwoven Passementerie tassel fringe on one end, and a shorter Passementerie tassel fringe trim on the other end. This lovely textile is a true piece of historical faded grandeur, with most signs of wear and use to the blank center of the textile, and to the fringe. There are stains, discolorations, some worn/damaged areas, fading, damage to the tassel fringe, some lines of staining in the center, blank area, but the majority of this is more than salvageable for projects. I can picture the large motifs on each end being used for cushions/pillows, but honestly I fee they woud make incredible pieces to frame. The designs are so very French, very Marie Antoinette/ Louis XVI. These designs were revived during the 19th Century, and during the Victorian era, woven tapestry textiles such as this were resurrected, but I have yet to find one that has the structural & design characteristics of this one in any later crafted ones. This is a designer\'s dream with so much martial to work with!The photos truly do not justify the beauty of this rare & exquisite confection of a textile!If you would like any more photos, please do not hesitate to ask. It is such a large, heavy piece, it is difficult to cram all of its beauty & imperfections both into just 12 photos. If your heart pulls you towards the Historical Beauty & Rarity of antique textiles & antiques, I have many other listings up & more still to come!
