I wish this bottle could talk... here is an amazing find with an awesome story behind it... this antique hand woven wicker wine bottle is from around 1890, maybe even a few years before. It was given to a newlywed couple in 1890 when they were married in the French countryside home of a wealthy relative, that made an exquisite well known wine! They were young & had already decided that America was where they wanted to raise a family & grow old together! They bought passage on a ship heading west to America & upon their arrival, since they had already made arrangements for a home, they only needed to un-pack & start settling in! After a couple days, they realized that their precious bottle of wine was apparently left behind in their apartment! They sent a telegram to the landlady, asking her to retrieve the bottle from their old apartment & send it to the relative that gave it to them! They had planned on going back to France in about a year or so for a visit & would pick it up then. They received a telegram from the relative, saying he would preserve it until their arrival! Well... many things happened that kept delaying their trip back to France! Finally after 10 long years, the couple & their 4 children, made it back for a visit & picked up the precious bottle of wine that they anxiously wanted! The relative made them a fairly decent offer for the bottle, as theirs was the last one left, all others had been sold! The crop that was used to make the wine was very special & it was his best wine ever! They firmly declined, thanked him & were even more excited about the gift! They made it home to America & as life sometimes does, it seemed one problem after another kept their attention away from the prized wine! The two boys, now young men, headed back to France as soldiers in Uncle Sam\'s Army! Finally, war was over & the boys were home safe! Time passed & through marriage the family grew, celebrations were planned, but something always seemed to get in the way! Shortly after the Stock Market crash in 1929, the whole family packed up & moved to California, settling near Santa Barbara on the Central Coast! Between the older generation passing away & the new generation growing, this bottle was placed in a cool dry cellar! It patiently sat there waiting for its next adventure! Then about a year ago, the younger generation of the family had an estate sale & we came along & bought this precious French hand woven wicker covered bottle, just for decorative purposes! In the heat of the moment, as several others were wanting it, we paid probably way too much for it! We\'ve enjoyed looking at it & recalling the wonderful story about the bottle, that was told to us by a 100 year old cousin! It stands about 15 1/2\" tall & the body of the bottle is about 6\" in diameter! There are a couple small broken pieces of wicker, but nothing really noticeable, after all it is about 125 years old! It actually has some liquid in it, but we have no idea what it is... the original prized grape juice ... maybe! The cork doesn\'t look like it\'s ever been removed from the green glass bottle! Hmmmmm... what if... well it weighs quite a bit! As it sits, it weighs almost 13 pounds, so packed for shipping, I would safely guess it will be in the 16 lbs to 17 lbs range... could be quite expensive, but maybe well worth it! HOWEVER... I would hate to, but we could pull the cork & empty whatever is in it, I\'m sure it would be a couple pounds less! It\'s up to the buyer! Be sure to look at all photos! Contact us with any questions! Buyer pays shipping! By the way... we are know for our exquisite, safe packing! Thank you for looking!
