Offered for your consideration today is this exquisite antique French picture frame. As you can see, this carved gilt wood & gesso frame is quite striking with excellent lustre. It measures approximately 17\" by 20\" by 3 1/4\" thick, and boasts an impressive 6\" moulding width with several coordinating designs. The frame has an opening of approximately 4 3/4\" by 7 3/4.\" I believe the frame dates to the 1800\'s (though it could be older). As you can see, there is a partial paper label verso for Carpentier, Paris, as well as some numerical markings that may have been a catalog reference at some point in time. As you can see from the detailed photos, the frame does have some losses to the gesso and moulding, as well as a few hairline cracks on the exterior sides. Given that, I submitted images of this frame to some very high end frame dealers who advised that with restoration, this frame would be worth on the order of $7500. I have decided not to pursue the restoration route at this time because I rather like the frame in its original condition, but perhaps you are so inclined, in which case, you will either make yourself a tidy profit, or just have a museum quality antique French frame to grace your home -- it\'s a win-win:) Thanks for looking!
