Fabulous antique French Napoleon III era Palais Royal style mother of pearl & silvered or nickel plated bronze 7 3/4\" “tall ship” or “sailboat” inkwell stand, a wonderful piece with shimmering pearl base, hull & sails, twisted brass wire ‘riggings’, \"Cherbourg\" & anchor inscription and wonderful visual & decorative appeal! Isn’t this one just about as charming as can be! A souvenir piece, the top sail has a blue enamel filled inscription that reads “Cherbourg” under an incised anchor. Cherbourg being a sea port area on the Cotentin peninsula in northwestern France. Lovely detail, don’t you think. Three pearl sails, each shaped is if puffed out and full of wind. A ladder, riggings and an anchor affixed to the piece with thin braided wire ropes and the inkwell held in place with a silvered fitting attached to both the mast and rudder. Fabulous! The sailor\'s cap inkwell lid in mother of pearl adding even more charm! These display wonderfully with the similarly styled Palais Royal mother of pearl ‘egg’ caskets, of which we have a few available so be sure to browse our extensive online offerings while you’re with us. Very good to excellent condition. No chips, cracks or damage to any of the pearl that I can see other than a tiny nip or two around the edge of the base. The glass ink pot may not be original but fits and works perfectly. See pictures for all measurements.

Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is received (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.
