Stunning Finest Quality Danish Silver Cigar Table LighterMade in Denmark by Georg Jensen c1933 -1944
This is a rare opportunity for the most discerning silver collector who only wants the very finest quality examples in their collection to acquire a superb example of anAladdin\'sLamp style solid silver table lighter, which was designed for use with cigars, by arguably the most important Silversmith of the Twentieth Century Georg Jensen of Denmark.
The lighter is of outstandingqualityand it is in truly stunning condition for a piece that is around eighty years old and of course as you would expect it is fully marked as shown in the sixth and seventh photographs. The use of the GJ \'Square Mark\', as it is often referred to, allows us to date this fine quality piece with certainty as a vintage Georg Jensen piece dating to between 1933 and 1944 (the dates between which this mark was used).This fine quality piece has a shape often referred to as an Aladdin\'s Lamp but Georg Jensen has added his genius to create a very special piece. The base has a ten sided polygon polished shape, which rises into a stunning Arts & Crafts style plenished hammered leaf patterned support for the body of the cigar lighter, which is polished.
The bi-furcated handle splits from a budded terminal and scrolls beautifully to meet the body of the lamp where it is adorned at the points of attachment with a silver beaded decoration. The lid is decorated with a leaf and budding blossom & berry design, which complements and balances the designs on the base & handle. Finally, the snuffer thatextinguishesthe flame by covering the wick is also finely decorated to complete a superb piece of vintage Georg Jensen silver that would be a superb addition to even the very finest collection (Please note there is no wick supplied).
This superb quality piece is fully marked on the underside of the base as shown in the photographs. It is approx\' 82mm or 3 1/4 inches high to the top of the handle; and approx\' 128mm or 5 inches long and weighs 166.1 grams.
Overall this top quality piece is in fantastic condition with the only minor surface wear and one very slight bruise that I can see at the very bottom of the base just above where one of the base\'s ten sides meets the table; this is so slight it really isn\'t noticeable at all and the camera can\'t pick it up but I\'m simplymentioning toensurecomplete descriptive accuracy.
In summation a fantastic opportunity to own a genuine and important vintage piece of Georg Jensen silver, which would be the finishing touch to any formal dining room.
