A Fine Example of a Solid Silver Vinaigrette by Joseph Willmore

Superb Condition and Hallmarked Birmingham 1827

A superb example of a solid Silver Vinaigrette by the highly respected & much collected Birmingham Silversmith Joseph Willmore.

This piece demonstrates the fine quality craftsmanship of this great Silversmith; the hand chased scroll border is simply exquisiteandthe detailing on each side of the box is testimony to the skill of its maker.

This fine quality Vinaigrette is in superb and original condition (I have not attempted to clean it as I am aware many collectors prefer toundertakethat task or leave the item in its original condition).

It has no damage that I can see otherthana tiny hole on one side approx\' 4mm below the hinge, which I have shown in thethird& fourth photographs, and which I suspect was done during the manufacturing process. The lid, which has a cartouche on it, has been engravedwith the letters \'DPS\' and it opens and closes as it should.

When you open the lid the interior gilding is quite simply breathtakingly beautiful for a piece that is 186 years old; it has survived almost intact - although it would undoubtedly benefit from a careful clean. The gilded grille opens and closes as it should and it is beautifully finished with hand chased foliate engraving of the highest quality (please see photographs)

The Vinaigrette has the following dimensions:

Length; approx\' 36mm

Width: approx\' 25mm

Height: approx\' 11mm

Weight: 20.8 grams

It has the following hallmarks:

On the inside of the lid - Profile ofGeorgeIV; Maker\'s Mark - \'JW\' for Joseph Willmore; Lion Passant - Sterling Silver

On the base of the vinaigrette - Town Mark - \'Anchor\' for Birmingham; Maker\'s Mark -\'JW\' for Joseph Willmore; Date Letter - \'D\' for 1827

I have provided high quality detailed photographs to help you appreciate the quality of this superb piece, please take the time to study them as they form part of the description.
