Fine Sterling Silver Vinaigrette by Joseph Willmore

Superb Condition; Hallmarked Birmingham 1827

A superbexample of a solid Silver Vinaigrette by the highly respected & much collectedBirmingham Silversmith Joseph Willmore (please see the detailed close-up photographs provided,which form an integralpart of the item\'s description).

This piecedemonstrates the fine quality craftsmanship of this great Silversmith; the handchased scroll border is simply exquisite andthe detailing on eachside of the Vinaigrette is testimony to the skill of its maker.

This fine qualityVinaigrette is in superb original condition (I have not attempted to clean itas I am aware many collectors prefer toundertakethat task or leavethe item in its original condition).It has nodamage that I can see otherthana tiny hole on one side approx\' 4mmbelow the hinge, which I have shown in thethird& fourthphotographs, and which I suspect was done during the manufacturingprocess.The lid, which has a cartouche on it, has been engravedwiththe letters \'DPS\' and it opens and closes as it should.

When you open the lid the interior gilding is quite simplybreathtakingly beautiful for a piece that is 186 years old; it has survivedalmost intact - although it would undoubtedly benefit from a careful clean. Thegilded grille opens and closes as it should and it is beautifully finished withhand chased foliate engraving of the highest quality (please see photographs).

The Vinaigrette has the following dimensions:

Width: approx\' 25mm;

Height: approx\' 11mm; and

Weight: 20.8 grams.

It has thefollowing Hallmarks:

On the insideof the lid - Profile ofGeorgeIV; Maker\'s Mark - \'JW\' for JosephWillmore; Lion Passant - Sterling Silver

On the base ofthe vinaigrette - Town Mark - \'Anchor\' forBirmingham;Maker\'s Mark -\'JW\' for Joseph Willmore; Date Letter - \'D\' for 1827

I haveprovided high quality detailed photographs to help you appreciate the qualityof this superb piece, please take the time to study them as they form part ofthe description.
