~ Antique German Putz Composition Chicken Hen Decoration ~ AAFA

Charming gessoed and hand painted composition chicken.

\"Composition\" was made of sawdust, kaolin clay, and glue.

They were mixed together and the material was pressed into molds.

The hen is attached to a paper covered cardboard base with marbled paper interior.

Possibly used as a candy container, but very small for that purpose.

Germany c. 1910

Condition:

GOOD

Wear appropriate for age and delicate material.

Overall discoloration to grey gesso ground.

Small chip to underside of tail and beak, and chips to pigment on crown.

Bubbles thru out gesso overcoat are part of the process.
