Until the Berlin Wall came down, and we had access to catalogs and information from East Germany, it was assumed that this large and gorgeous piece, along with a few others this size, were made by Heubach. Any snow baby this beautiful would have to be a Heubach, right? Well, wrong. This snow baby with its thoughtful expression was made by Hertwig. And the face is beautiful! The first four inch snow baby I owned was an example of this pose. It was the only four inch snow baby I owned for a few years. There was no to search then!This example is in great condition. Even his very vulnerable right thumb has survived. His face is beautifully painted, and includes eyelid crease lines and nostril dots. I can not tell how old the skis are, but they could be original or not.
