Here is yet another ethereal antique candy container--this time a large spun cotton batting stork, likely used to celebrate the birth of a baby! Standing just over 9\" tall, this delicate creature might have been part of the centerpiece at a baby shower, or perhaps given as a party favor, filled with candy for the celebration. I can imagine proffering a sweet filled one to a big brother or sister to hail the arrival of (soften the blow of 😂) a new sibling!

This example is made from white cotton batting wrapped around a cardboard form at its core. The details are hand painted in black. The bird has amber colored plastic eyes and a wooden beak painted red--this one with the addition of a light dusting of some sparkly red glitter. He has wire legs and feet, painted red as well. The left wing is hinged to lift up and reveal the interior compartment where candies could be hidden.

Since I deal in antique dolls and toys, I find these old decorations to be welcome additions in doll displays. I show a couple of examples of how the stork can pair up with tiny antique baby dolls, as seen in the last two pictures. These dolls and their cradles are NOT INCLUDED here, but merely presented for your inspiration and size reference.
