Antique Hanukkah Menorah 19thC Polish Warsaw Copper Commandments and Lions
An Antique late 19th century Copper made Hanukkah Menorah. This Menorah is known as the Baal Shemtov Type and is a typical Polish Warsaw made.
This Hanukkah Menorah known in later times as Hanukkia is made from a relatively thin plate of Copper for the back Embossed to forming the minor ornamental features .The base is made in press and bending technique and is attached to the back plate. The main Design and configuration motives including the candle, cups and the small pitcher while the 10 Commandments and lion are later added and attached to the main structure.
In Jewish Tradition the Hanukkah holiday is Celebrated for the Remembrance of the Miracle that took place during the revolt against the Greek king Antiochus VI. After the Greeks where driven out from the Jewish Temple in Jerusalem the Custom of lighting the Menorah in the temple was to be restarted. However only one little oil container was found and it had enough oil for lighting the Sacred Menorah for only one day. Yet every morning the little pot was miraculously refiled and that went on for 8 days until new oil had been profaned and brought to the Temple.

Traditionally every day ,during the Holiday, a growing number of candles is lit from 1 until 8 (in the last day). While the center higher placed candle is used to light each of the eight candles and so altogether there are 9 candles in the Hanukiah.

In this Hannukia the traditional \'Miraculous little oil jar\' is also added on the top left of the Hanukkia. Very similar Hanukkias are exhibited in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem in the Large room of Hanukkia collections. It is worth mentioning that the later Hanukkias of this kind ,that appear with a higher status finish-usually silver plated, are more typical for the early 20th century.
