On offer, from my family estate, is this rare andbeautiful Imperial Russian blue kovshcreated at the time ofthe csar, circa 1890 or earlier. It is in pristine condition. Oftraditional form, with shaped flat handle, on a raised circular foot,enamel overall with shaded flowers and scrolling foliage on a robin\'s egg blue background. Thecenter depicts a bird on a branch. Gorgeous palette of pink hues, orange & peach with the green verdure accented by whitepointillism. Many experts who worked for the house of Fabergé, also used their skill and talent to createmasterpieces likethis one. Though she be but little, she is fierce! This isn\'t a run-of-the-mill, massed producedpiece; itapproaches museum quality.
The maker\'s mark is stamped in cyrillic which is S.B of an unidentified master, 84 standard, Moscow, late 1800s.
The kovsh is not only a specialunusual form, it is also a precious size, measuring 3 3/8 inches in length or 8.6 cm.
