Antique Islamic Brass & Copper Dallah Coffee Pot Gulf Pot Middle Eastern 19th C:

An item of Persian / Middle Eastern tinned copper and brass ware, 19th century possibly earlier. It has a stamped makers mark. A Dallah , دلة , or coffee pot, (sometimes referred to as Gulf Pot, or Baghdad Boiler). It is is used to serve Arabic coffee, or ‘‘Al-Qahwa’’, قهوة , and is usually used in ceremonial acts or as hospitality. It has a stamped Y shape decoration in a honeycomb pattern. The Dallah has a long curved beak like spout. The lid which has an internal copper base is hollow contains some items that rattle, they sound like pebbles. There are some minor knocks & dents the lid knop is bent and the bird can rotate. It stands approximately 10 1/2 inches or 26.5 cm high and is 11 1/2 inches or 29cm long, a body diameter of 6 inches or 15 cm. It weighs 1220 grammes unpacked. It has a stamped makers mark in Arabic script, I have so far not been able to translate what it says.This is a lovely Dallah , دلة , or coffee pot, (sometimes referred to as Gulf Pot, or Baghdad Boiler). A dallah is used to serve Arabic coffee, or ‘‘Al-Qahwa’’, قهوة , and is usually used in ceremonial acts or as hospitality.The Dallahhas a traditional and very distinctive shape with a long curved beak like spout and has a waisted body form with a hinged lid and a hinged spout cover. It has a chased or stamped Y shape decorationwhich form ahoneycomb pattern. There are embossed flower or star shapes to the lid.The lid and spout cover is pierced with small diagonal holes and a brass knob which has been bent at some time. The lid which has an internal copper base is hollow and sealed, contains some items that rattle , they sound like pebbles, I am unsure of their significance. The spout over has two decorative brass knobs and a cast brass bird, The bird is loose and is free to rotate.The dallah stands approximatley 10 1/2 inches or 26.5 cm high and is 11 1/2 inches or 29cm longand has a bodydiameter of 6inches or 15 cm.It weighs 1220 grammes unpacked and is in good, original unpolishedcondition.
