This beautiful antique John Gould & H.C. Richter framed lithograph depicts \"Gygis Candida\", otherwise known as the White Tern, and is in very good condition with no tears, holes,or stains. This shore bird image is executed in delicate shades of white, green, blue, gray, and tan. The lithograph is matted with a soft green, and an inner wooden frame of gold (inside the mat). The gold painted wood frame is in good condition as well, with only some minor losses of paint, as shown in the photographs. The frame measures 26 1/4\" by 21 1/4\". The reveal is 18 1/2\" by 13 1/4\".The print measures 21 1/2\" by 14 1/2\".Originally published between 1840 - 1848 by Gould in his portfolio \"Birds Of Australia\", this hand colored lithograph is beautifully and artistically executed.

John Gould was a self-taught English naturalist, a gifted artist, and a talented taxidermist, as Gould was made a taxidermist for the Zoological Society of London in 1827. He published more than forty folio volumes of ornithological illustrations, these works containing over 3,000 lithographic plates. His first work was printed in 1831 and his last was produced in 1888.
