Antique Japanese Banko Ware Grey Floral Stoneware Teapot Kyusu Marked Late 19thC:

An antique Japanese grey stoneware teapot dating from around 1890 - 1910. It is very thinly potted and is globular in shape with vertical ribbing. It has also been decorated with embossed patterns. There are small signs of the potter with his fingerprints imprinted in the body. This type of ware is sometimes referred to as Banko ware by some collectors.It has a hand painted polychrome enamel design of a flowers and grasses, butterfly and a bird in flight. The lid is a small button type which can be rotated, there is traces of gilding on it. It has an impressed potters mark in Kanji characters.It stands approximately 2 3/4\" high, is 4\" long and 3\" diameter. It weighs 71 grammes.It is in good antique condition, with tiny chips to the spout, the lid has been broken,bamboo handle lost. It weighs 71 grammes unpacked.It is in good antique condition, there are some tiny fleabite chips to the spout, the lid has been broken and re-stuck, The bamboo handle is missing.
