Antique Japanese Buddhist Temple Large Wood Candle Stick / Lacquered Oak #1 of 3:

This is a large candle stick that based on its size would have been made for a Buddhist or Shinto temple. It\'s made of solid oak covered with lacquer. We don\'t know it\'s age but we think it took a lot of years to acquire that patina. The brass top with the spike lifts off. (see photos #6, 8 & 9)The spike is for Japanese Buddhist temple candles. They have a hole in the bottom the spike would fit into. There is a brass hook on the upper part of the shaft. (see photos # 5 & 10) This was to hold a snuffer which is long gone. The shaft fits into a square hole in the lacquered oak base. At the bottom of the shaft is a hole that a wood cotter pin fits into locking the shaft to the base. (see photos 7, 8 & 12) It\'s a pretty tight fit. This is one of three of these candle sticks we have listed. We will combine shipping if more than one is prchased. It\'s 31 inches tall (79 cm) The base is 10 3/4 inches wide (27.5 cm) and it weighs 2 1/4 pounds (1 kilo) This may be to long for some international shipping.
