Antique Japanese Foil GINBARI Cloisonne Miniature Vase - Cherry/Plum Blossoms on Branches...
* CONDITION: This vase is in wonderful condition. The only flaw I could detect was a very small rough spot just below the top rim where there is a minor chip. (Please refer to photos to see this area. Last photo has close up.)
* Rare and collectable, this piecehas the maker\'s mark on the bottom. (See photo.)
* I did send pictures of this vase and it\'s marking to a man who has authored an wonderful book on Japanese Cloisonne. He believed the mark was likely that of Ota Toshiro, from Shippo-cho (\"Enamel-town\") which he used on pieces he sold as a retailer-exporter. He also dates this piece to be roughly from 1910-1940. This author/speaker said he had some very fine pieces of this marking in his own personal collection.
* The Ginbari FoilMethod is unique in that it used a transparent type enamel over a silver foil background giving it a lovely sheen and depth unique to that method. The colored enamel inlay is transparent. If you take note of similar and often unmarked pieces of this type of Cloisonne you can see the difference when it comes to the details of the delicacy of the overlay enameling and the sense of depth that the transparency enables.
* The motif is a graceful branch with lovely cherry (or plum) blossoms.
* The lovely shade of blue begins at the top and graduates to a creamy white making the vase very appealing from all sides.
* This little gem measures 3.5\" tall.
