ANTIQUE JAPANESE MEIJI (C.1910) SIGNED BRONZE IKEBANA USUBATA VASE DRAGON MOTIF:

Aspecial Japanese thick bronzevase from the late Meiji period (c. 1910)used for ikebana flower arranging and known as an usubata. It was made by the Japanese bronze sculpture artist, Sanyo (see picture 8). It has tripodal footing (see picture 6) and a deep reliefdesign of dragon motifs inside ageometricpattern (see picture 12).

The two side handles as well as the three feet are also in a geometric pattern (see pictures 5 & 5).There is a removable watertight top section (see pictures) in which the flower arrangement was crafted and then set into the base vase .

This usubata vase has beenwell usedyetwell loved and has a rich bronze patina from years of loving use. Showing only minor signs of use, it remains in excellent condition. Enjoy the enlarged pictures and feel free to ask questions. Stands 8 3/4\"high by 10 1/2\" across (22.5 by 26.5 cm). It is avery fine piece of Edo Era bronze workmanship and weighs nearly 6 pounds of thick aged bronze
