Here is an antique Japanese miniature school clock, time and strike, from the early 1900\'s.
The Japanese originally bought American clocks in the late 1880\'s, but then started making their own.
These are of comparable quality to the American ones - inexpensive and reasonably reliable.
They were imported to the U.S. starting in the early 1970\'s.
This one is smaller than most - 18 1/2\" tall by 10\" wide, with a 4 3/4\" chapter ring.
Note that they are not temerature compensated, so they will run faster in a cold room.
Also, pendulum adjustment is inevitable after shipment.With some supervision, a mechanically inclined child could take this apart and learn a lot.It has been cleaned and oiled, and is keeping reasonable antique clock time (a minute or two a day).
The last time I wound it, it was still running after 13 days.
It strikes the hour. Most of these, including this one, do not strike on the half hour.
