This week we have quite a few folk and professional puppets for sale, from the collection of Beale Street Puppets inBaltimore Maryland. They hate to part with these- but the workshop is running out of room, folks!

Wayang golek are wooden doll puppets that are operated from below by rods connected to the hands and a central control rod that runs through the body to the head. The simple construction of the puppets belies their versatility, expressiveness and aptitude for imitating human dance. Today, wayang golek is mainly associated with Sudanese culture of West Java. However the wooden wayang also known in Central Java as Wayang Menak, originated fromKudusCentral Java.

This particular puppet has a finely carved face and helmet, glassearrings. All wooden parts show wear, paint loss and aging. The puppets stage left has broken in half. The costume must have been magnificent at one time, with some lovely hand sewn bead work, it also is suffering from some moth damage.

Do not expect our vintage items to be in new or like new condition- many of our items are fragile, played with, and many are over 100 years old.

AND---- many of our items have been in storage for years,so if you are allergic to dust, or sensitive to certain scents or smells, we do not recommend purchasing vintage items.Use your own good common sense, and expect an item to have a unique patina and history all its own- with imperfections inherent in antique pieces!

Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 5 pm, Eastern Standard Time. We cannot answer emails unless they come through the message system- this protects both parties. Emails received after these hours will be answered as promptly as is possible on the next business day. Please do not expect a response during the weekend- with any luck we are out doing something fun, far far away from the computer!
