This is a lovely old plate and examples of it in blue are quite rare.

Black is the far more common color.

Gold trimmed.

APassover(Pesach) seder plate with both Hebrew script and helpful English translations.

This design was first registered by Ridgways, the Handley, Staffordshire, Englandmanufacturer of the plate in 1923,

according to the British Design Registry number 699588.

"Bardiger" is a retailer mark forSolomon Bardiger'schina shop at 180 Brick Lane, London.

Solomon Bardiger was a Ukrainian immigrant who came to England in 1890.

He traded in a wide variety of goods,but became most well known for his Judaica table wares.

It was he who commissioned Ridgways to make the plate.

He first worked as a presser and then a master tailor, and during World War I,

he sold soap, candles and oil to the Army.

His china shop was known for its special plates and crockery sets for Passover.

He possibly also acted as a wholesaler and exporter of this china,

as examples seem to turn up all over the globe.
