Antique, finely crafted Kurdish or Iraqi Khanjar dagger - circa 1890-1910
The handle material is horn - it is carved in \'I\' shape typical to the region and has a beautiful decorative element at the butt-cap in silver inset with garnets - an UNUSUAL and ornate addition.
The curved, hand-forged blade is decorated with engraved crescent marks on both sides.
The original sheath is made of solid silver - beautifully chased with various designs and inset with 3 rose-gold, diamond-shaped plaques chased with Arabic calligraphy - it is also inset with genuine turquoise cabochons showing nice natural color - very nice workmanship
