This lovely hat truly represents the early history of the Lazarus Department Store in Ohio. It is 17.5\" round with 3 brims of straw spines. And, has a well constructed lined velvet cap that is 6.5\" round with 2 side minders trimmed with velvet flowers. On the top is a bouquet of velvet violets with cloth stems, held in black velvet, to the cap. The cap has built in reinforcement to hold it\'s round shape. This hat has a label that reads \" Lazarus Model\" Cincinnati. The full history of growth and innovative marketing techniques of the Lazarus Department Store can be read on Wikipedia. Here is a short summary: Simon Lazarus (1808-1977) opened a one room men\'s clothing store in downtown Columbus in 1851. Sons, Fred and Ralph joined the business early 1900\'s and the company acquired the John Shillito\'s Co. of Cincinnati in 1928, (which became Federated Dept. Stores in 1929, along with Williams Filene\'s Sons Co. & Abraham & Straus). Bloomingdale Brothers joined the Co. in 1930. This hat dates to the 1930\'s when each partner in Federated had their own buyers, hence, \"the Lazarus Model\". Some minor loss of spine detail, but, not enough to take away the integrity of this beautiful hat. The minders seem less snappy, than originally, but this could be addressed to hold the hat in place. It is a delightful show piece and will be securely packaged. Estate piece. Questions welcome, smoke free home. Paypal, please.
