Found at an estate sale, this marvelous antique hand-colored engraving is from Marcellus Laroon\'s The cryes of the city of London : drawne after life in 74 copper plates, now usually referred to simply as Cries of London. It\'s not from the original 1688 edition but is Plate 3 from a later German edition. The plates of the original edition had captions in three languages, English, French, and Italian. This later edition added German as a fourth language. I\'m not sure when it was published.The English title of Plate 3 is \"Buy a Rabbet a Rabbet\". The German title is simply \"Kauft Hasen\". The number 1299/3 is printed on the back. This is presumably the catalog number of the antique prints business that sold it. \"/3\" indicates that this is plate 3. The pebbled paper is 11.6\" x 15.6\". The embossed area of the engraving is 7.6\" x 11.1\" and the image frame or border is 6.6\" x 9.4\". Photos taken though a 10X loupe show the lines of the engraving and some of the imperfections characteristic of hand coloring. The paper has some creases and three of the edges are crumpled (see photos, especially photo of back). Some of the corners are bent as well. The left edge is slightly ragged. The top right corner of the paper is stained and the back is slightly soiled.If you\'re dissatisfied with this antique engraving in any way, you can return it in the same condition in which you received it within 14 days for a full refund.
