Description: This beautiful German beer stein stein was produced by Villeroy and Boch in Mettlach over 120 years ago.
The exceptionally crafted ceramics art object consits of brown stoneware body with white glaze on the inside with beautiful picturesque decorations made in etched technique creating a wonderful effect - the most famous Mettlach etched technique was never matched by any other manufacturer.
The theme of the stein is beer brewing and drinkong - there are three medallions with etched pictures of people from Renaissance age drinking beer and the rest of the stein is beautifully decorated with etched hops vines..
The stein\'s decoration was created by M.Hein - a famous and mysterious Mettlach designer. There is his signature near the bottom of the handle. The lid is pewter with a ceramics inlay showing hops and barley. Magnificent thumblift in form of a gnome holding a beer stein. All in all, a quintessential Mettlach in pristine condition.
The stein is fully marked at the bottom with incised Mettlach Tower mark and mold number 1999. There is also a date mark 92 indicating the stein was made in 1892. It is also stamped with the Mettlach Mercury mark and \"Made in Germany\" mark.
Excellent flawless condition - a collector\'s dream. It is quite large and impressive, standing 9.5\" tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.5L capacity.
