For sale is an exquisite papier-mache\' doll dating from 1837. She stands 20-1/4\" on a sturdy kid leather body with wooden lower legs and unique, glove-like kid hands. Highlights include a lovely, expressive face in beautiful condition, a desirable hairstyle that features a braided bun to the reverse and exposed ears, inset black glass eyes and an original costume of red wool with silk accents. Her overall condition is excellent, but there are inherent age cracks in the shoulderplate and expected wear to the fabrics of the dress. UV light has shown there to be repainting some time ago, this is invisible to the naked eye.
She is a product of Germany, exported to France as a shoulderhead and placed on a superior quality leather body to be dressed in regional French clothing. She is a beautiful early toy with a tranquil, ageless presence.
