If you\'re a serious collector of jewelry boxes and caskets and Viennese enamel then you know you\'ve come across something very special in this rare enamel brass ormolu horse-drawn coach! Measuring 6 3/8\" in length, 3 7/8\" in height, and 3 3/16\" in width, this coach (or carriage or stagecoach) came from the estate of a Providence, Rhode Island, family along with a collection of Austrian miniature enamel and brass parlor furniture (which we are offering in a separate listing). Though unmarked, the design and construction of this carriage is representative of the best of Viennese (Austrian) enamel and metalwork and was no doubt made by the same maker as the other signed \"Austria\" pieces we\'re offering in our other sale (they were all found together in the same china cabinet). It dates to the late 19th or early 20th century. While doll size, it is actually intended for storing a woman\'s jewelry, and is known as either a jewel casket or jewelry casket. This coach has hand-painted enamel porcelain panels on the roof, seat, luggage rest, and sides with Watteau scenes showing men and women relaxing, playing music, and courting in pastoral landscapes. These panels each have an ormolu border and fit into a gilt metal body with elegant springs and wheels. Each porcelain panel as well as the body of the coach are all in very good antique condition, free of chips, cracks, or repairs. The roof of the coach opens to reveal a triangular interior lined with light blue silk and beveled glass windows. The coach\'s driver\'s seat opens to reveal a small silk-lined box perfect for rings or small earrings. This is an exceedingly rare miniature coach, with apparently none having come up for sale here on in the last eight years!
