Thischarming patent knitting needle case is enameled with a reflective foilstylesurface. The top revolves until theopening on top lines up over one of thecompartments below. It contains 4 setsof 4 double pointed steel knitting needles and is 7 3/8\" long.

Thebottom is marked \"Jahncke\'s Patent - Best English Knitting Pins - 4Sets\". The top is stamped \"Mitrailleuse Patent Knitting Pin Case\". Thegold paintoverlaying the foil surface says, \"MitrailleuseKnitting Pin Case\" and \"Royal Letters Patent\". It\'s in excellentworking condition with no dents or other damage.

In1868 the French introduced a breech-loading machine gun with severalbarrels fitted together so it could fire bullets simultaneously orsingly in rapid succession. It was known as the Mitrailleuse and thename was later used for this style of needle and knitting pin cases.
