Gorgeous antique Moroccan Koran or Torah box. Handmade of carved and dyed camel bone on wood. Overlaid with tooled silver and brass. Intricate and fine this is truly the work of a master craftsman. Features a prominent Star of David. On the back brass panel in an Arabic script are the words \'Oh, Lord of the slaves\'. I\'m told that is the translation; I do not read Arabic. This piece is a testament to the rich Jewish Berber culture of Morocco and recalls an historical period of shared culture and tolerance. In amazing condition and very rare this is a museum quality piece. A real find for the serious collector. Measures 14 cm tall by 12 cm wide and 4 cm deep. Hinged lid closes with a pin. Complete with the original braided strap which has a drop of 32 cm. just an incredible piece!
