A Very Fine Antique mid XVIII Century English Violin BY John Johnson,1750 London England, bearing its original very old but readable label, the inkedEnglish fashion purfling, great restored condition, old first class repairs (see condition report), superb exemplar by the maker withspectacular and very powerful noble and deepsound, professionally adjusted at our atelier, ready to play LOB 354 mm

We are very thrilled to be able to offer this wonderful masterpiece in a sale, this is afantastic violin made by the famous english maker John Johnson in London 1750, the violin has some restorations all of which were carried out by a master luthier at least 100 years ago, all of this restorations are undoubtedly expert and perfectly fixed and sound, the scroll is grafted and also has pegrebushings andgrafting in 3 inner sections but is very strong and stable, also intonation keeps perfectly, there are a couple of repaired cracks in the top, one of them very visible extending below the left F hole to the lower edge, there is a small wing crack in the right F hole and there is also a crack near thebassbar but there are no cracks in the soundpost area nor soundpost patch inside, the back has 1 main crack in the lower section extending to the edge and a grafted piece of back also in the right lower section, the backright lower corner as well a piece of back is inserted to the lower edge, there is a deep scratch which appears to be a crack but is a scratch, there is also the neck button graft perfectly visible in pics and well done, a couple of very minor rib cracks also visible in pics and thats all, everything is perfectly stable and although these scars can be ugly for some there are other people who find them charming and eloquent, there is a very ancient art in Japan called Kintsukuroi which illustrates thisperfectly, there is a pic of this in the additional pics link but please take a moment for googling Kintsukuroi and if you don\'t know of it you will find a very nice philosophy behind that form ofancientrestoration art, could be a nice idea to restore some violins with that technique

Apart from the old restorations theviolin has it is just a marvelous friend musically speaking, its voice is more than mature and perfectly seasoned, dry and intensely charming, with shiny cascades of clear harmonics and inexhaustible power this violin could be considered even as soloist concert instrument (although thats daring to say I still believe its true) because its projection, loads of power, depth,nuancing capability and velvety warm voice is just what every violinist wants, this violin will be a perfect companion for those looking for sound above all but apart from an amazing sound its appearance is great and its origin veryillustrious

The tonal adjustments andcalibrationdone on this violin as well theaccessories used could cost some $450 and probably much more in Europe or the USA and it includes revision and smoothening of the pegs, smoothening of the fingerboarda professional cleansing and polish, a new custom specifically hand carved for this violin Aubert DeLuxe bridge, a new customhand carved soundpost of the highest quality and timbre and finally the installation of all 4 professional strings in good playing condition and adjustment of the bridge and soundpost for best tonal results.
