Antique Ornate Sterling Pill/Trinket/Snuff Box Levi & Salaman 1909 Birmingham :
$94.00

Beautiful Antique English Edwardian Sterling Silver Hallmarked Box - Snuff Box, Pill Box, Trinket Box - take your pick. The set of hallmarks at it\'s base indicate the piece is sterling silver; assayed in Birmingham in 1909, with the maker\'s mark of L & S for Levi & Salaman.*The body is smooth and plain with a highly ornate decorative lid. The lid opens and closes smoothly and snaps shut nicely.I believe the lid may have once been covered with Guilloche Enamel, as I have discovered traces of cobalt. The strangest thing, I never saw this when I bought it years and years ago! I was wondering how this could be, and came to the conclusion that it could have been either dirty at the time, or the previous owner left traces of silver paste in the cracks of the ornate design. If in fact it once housed Guilloche, I have no idea how they got it all off as thoroughly as they did**, but there you have it.That said, it presents beautifully ~ it is a stunning design and a very useful and highly collectible little box.
CONDITIONNo major damages or repairs. Light wear commensurate with age and use, has sustained a fewnegligiblebruises to the base - see photos. It has been very well kept for a piece of 105 years. Enjoy!
PHOTOSI have placed a loupe in front of my camera lens in order to take some of the detailed photos, so if you see a warping in any photo, it is due to the convex nature of the magnifying glass, as the box is perfectly round.
MEASUREMENTS are closely approximatedDiameter of base: 35mmTotal Height: between 17-18mm (lid is convex)Height without lid: If anyone out there knows a method of removing damaged enamel from a sterling piece besides the blood, sweat and tears method - I would love to hear from you - I am so curious how this could be accomplished - if in fact it can be...
SELLERS NOTES ON MY COLLECTION, SHIPPING, PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS ETCI am selling a few special pieces from my collection of antiques and antique jewelry. I am not an antiques dealer, nor a professional in identifying antiques, their age or provenance, simply a passionate small scale collector. I try to list each piece as accurately as possible and will note when I am unsure about it\'s age, maker, material composition etc. If there are hallmarks or makers marks, I may be familiar with the maker and exact age, though some can be faint - so view the provided photos for your own independent research.
Due to the nature of antique pieces, there will be some general wear commensurate with the age of each piece and it\'s original use, which I believe brings the piece and it\'s story to life and is desirable to collectors and myself in many instances, like a beautiful patina to natural materials and metals. On certain pieces we may discover a historic repair, which I will note. As I do not alter the pieces I collect, any repairs, additions or alterations would have been performed in antiquity.* Please send payment via Paypal within three days of the sale closing, if you need more time or an alternate payment method - simply drop me an email using \'s standard messaging format. I am flexible.
I try to ship within three days of payment receipt, though I generally ship on Mondays and Tuesdays, as I work full time the rest of the week. Your piece will be packed extremely carefully and securely. Please send a message if you would like insurance as I cannot be responsible for the parcel should it go missing in transit. This has only happened to me once as a buyer, though sadly I could not be compensated without insurance on my purchase.
As I am a small scale seller, I can not take returns due to a change of heart, so please take advantage of my photos and description before committing, and ask me all the questions you may have before you offer. That said, I will gladly accept a return if I have [unintentionally] misrepresented the piece. Each case is individual and your satisfaction is extremely important to me. If you are unsatisfied - please don\'t hesitate to contact me before leaving your response.
