Antique Ottoman Turkish Gunpowder Flask Box Brass or Bronze with Note:

Really well made Ottoman gunpowder flask with hinged in lid
Made from what I think is bronze but possibly brass
Measuring 4 5/8 inches or 12 cm from bottom point to the top of the crest
and 3 3/4 inches (9.5 cm) at its widest
A note that was enclosed inside states (as well as I can make out in Italian) that it is a gunpowder box from the Barbary pirates in Otranto, Italy and dates to 1650.
The note is pictured and was in the box at the estate sale where I bought it.
I am quite certain that it is Ottoman but then pirates stole from everyone and it may have belonged to a pirate. I feel comfortable with a nineteenth century date - it may well be much older but I just don\'t know.
The lid closes well but does not snap shut or stay shut unless it is upright.
It is missing its central stone and there are some pings and small dents on the back with a pinholeInternational postage is by Priority or Express Mail only
