Up for your consideration is our very sweet antique doll with a delicate hand-painted face and rare blue glass sleep eyes. Her body is stuffed with wood shavings, and her fingers are stitched with a separate thumb. Her blonde wig is glued to her head. She wears period clothing--hand stitched as well as machine sewn--that is very fragile and tender, showing signs of damage due to the age of the fabric. In the back of her dress are metal hooks and thread-sewn eyes; both the dress and bonnet have lace trim. The bonnet lace is especially unusual because it is woven in a very tiny and intricate pattern. Removal of her outfit might further compromise it, so we left her clothes on for the photos. Her long knit stockings are two slightly different shades of brown; there is some staining on her legs. She measures about 16 1/2\" tall.Her face is very simple yet beautiful. Her papier mache head is in very good condition with a nice finish; there is a tiny chip on the tip of her lips where the paint is missing. On the shoulder plate there are a few what we would call hairline cracks. There appears to be a \"6\" or \"E\" mark on the back of her head/shoulder plate, but since we are not antique doll experts we have no knowledge of what that stands for. There could possibly be additional maker\'s marks, but we are unable to see anything since her dress can\'t be fully removed without possibly further compromising it. Her legs are sewn onto her body; it looks as though each arm is attached with a cotter/hairpin-type fastener (although we aren\'t able to tell for sure because her clothes weren\'t removed).
